Penultimate Edition: Newsletter 20th November 2012

Hi posties!

There has been a suggestion that we create an open door policy for the PSA Lounge. This would mean that, instead of you having to book the key and borrow it if you want to use the lounge, we would leave it open for any postgrad to use during business hours. If you want to use it for a specific meeting or seminar, you would still be able to do so by making an exclusive booking through Guild Reception.

What do you think? Would this make you use the Lounge more frequently? As always, email psa@guild.uwa.edu.au with your thoughtful thoughts.

Handover has gone really well, I think the 2013 committee are going to ROCK your SOCKS! If you want to get in on the action, available positions are below!

Oh, and go to the Summer School, it looks fun! Deets below. We’re over 300 likes on Facebook!! You’re the best posties, you’ve made an old President pretty happy!

Big hugs,
Aisling
(Again, as always, if you don’t get nice formatting for the newsletter, view it on the blog!)

Notices
Check your student email!! Your student email is where the GRS communicates with you – regardless of if you have a staff account, or still use the same Hotmail account you set up when you were 12 years old. Check that and StudentConnect at least once a week to ensure that you don’t have any outstanding fines, fees, milestones which might lead to an encumbrance – this would prevent the automatic re-enrollment of research students! Bad times for everyone.
TL;DR – don’t start whinging at Gemma if you’re not re-enrolled, check your student email now.

2013 PSA Committee: There are still some positions open on the 2013 committee, so if you’ve got the desire to volunteer and a passion for postgraduates, shoot me an email!
New members welcome for:
Equity Officer
Coursework Officer
Indigenous Officer
Education Fac Rep
Law Fac Rep
Medicine, Dentistry, and Health Science Face Rep
All 2013 positions commence on the 1st of December.

Inter-Uni Summer School! Registrations for the inaugural Inter-uni Summer-school for Postgraduate Research Excellence (InSPiRE) are now open, please find attached the promotional flyer.

InSPiRE will be held from February 11th – 15th 2013, with the opening day being held at the University Club of WA. The remainder of the week will be held across the four other Western Australian Universities, and students may register for single days, multiple days or for the whole week. The program will feature guests speakers from the industry and community, interactive workshops and networking events, and fantastic prize giveaways.

Numbers are strictly limited, and the students will need to register early to avoid disappointment. http://www.ecu.edu.au/conferences/2013/InSPiRE

Newsletter November 14th 2012

Hi posties!

There are currently 295 likes for the PSA Facebook page (www.facebook.com/uwapsa). It would make me super duper happy to leave PSA, after launching the page this year, with over 300 likes – so please please please click the link, like it and recommend to your friends! It’s lots of fun, it’s regularly updated, and there are heaps of cool photos!

There are super exciting things happening that are likely not to be finalised until next year, and I can’t tell you about them yet! But stay in touch with your PSA so that the 2013 committee can make sure you all know about news and developments. If you can think of a way your postgrad experience could be improved – tell us! Even if we can’t directly help, we’ll happily provide advice and support.

I hope you have a lovely week postgrads! I’ll see you all around campus!

Big hugs,
Aisling

Newsletter 8th of November 2012

Hi postgrads!
Blog?

The Cocktail Party was a great success! Thanks so much to everyone who came and helped make it a great night – you all looked beautiful! A final special thanks to Brock for all his work in organising the night!

There are lots of photos up on the Facebook page:

Do you have feedback on the PSA in 2012? Email it to psa@guild.uwa.edu.au, and maybe things will be better/different/cooler for you taking the time to do so!

I’m so pleased to say that we sent Postscript to the printer today! A teeny tiny bit behind schedule, but well worth the time and effort in reading it. A huge thanks to Ashleigh Prosser for editing, collating, and liaising, and to Patricia Alessi for kick starting the project.

Finally – AWARD AND GRANT APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY 5pm FRIDAY. The PSA Office won’t be attended during the day (I’m at the IAS ‘Day of Ideas’), but I will be back before 5pm to clear out the pigeonhole – so don’t be late!

Drop your applications in to Guild Student Reception on the ground floor of the Guild Village, and give the lovely reception girls a smile.

3 newsletters left from me dearlings, then I’m back to writing my thesis. It’s a little less chirpy than these newsletters.

Aisling
